Profile
Marita has over 20 years practice in the law, with particular experience in commercial law and tribunal work. For 11 years prior to coming to the Bar, Marita worked:
as a part time member of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal; and
as a consultant with Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
In addition, Marita has been appointed as the Acting Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal.
Marita lectures and conducts regular workshops on superannuation and taxation as it relates to superannuation including the University of Melbourne's post graduate program. She has also spent several months in the USA studying pension law.
Membership of Industry Bodies and other Organisations
Marita is a member of:
the Commercial Section of the Law Institute of Victoria (Superannuation Committee);
the Superannuation Lawyers Discussion Group (Convener and founding member); and
the Australian Institute of Administrative Law.
She has also been actively involved in ASFA (Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia) and IFSA (Investment and Financial Services Association).
Speaking Engagements
Marita is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars, including:- the Law Council Superannuation Conference,
the ASFA National Conference;
LexisNexis Conferences;
Television Education Network Seminars and Interviews;
Law Institute Seminars and Law Week Lecture; and
Guest lectured at the University of Melbourne as part of the Master of Laws program.
Drafting Legislation Recommendations
Marita has been involved in discussions, drafting recommendations and appearing before bodies including:-
the Senate Select Committee on Superannuation;
the Australian Law Reform Commission's Collective Investments Review;
the Commonwealth Attorney-General on superannuation; and
Treasury regarding the Financial Services Reform changes to the Corporations Act.
Publications
Marita is a regular contributor to the literature with publications appearing in Law Institute publications and industry magazines.
